Get Ready, Get Set: College of Business Welcome on Friday, August 20th

You are here

On Friday, August 20th, all first-year students in our BS in Business and Economics degree program will convene for the College of Business Welcome.

GOALS

The College of Business Welcome is designed to ensure all business students:

  1. Are recognized and welcomed for the first time as the Class of 2025 in the College of Business community.

  2. Know who their academic advisor is in the College of Business Undergraduate Programs Office and how to reach advisors for help when they need it.

  3. Understand what they can expect both academically and outside of the classroom (“co-curricularly”) in their four years within the College of Business.

  4. Finalize their schedules so they are ready to start classes on Monday, August 23rd.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The College of Business Welcome is an academic orientation where first-year students  meet their academic leadership (Deans) and advisors and learn about the four-year experience in the College of Business. The event will include:

  • Welcoming Remarks:  The College of Business Welcome will include a welcoming address from Georgette Chapman Phillips, the Dean of the College of Business.  Katrina Zalatan, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, will then overview academic expectations and moderate a question-and-answer session with the undergraduate student officers of Lehigh’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society for students of business.

  • Meet Your Advisor & Learn About Your Four-Year Experience:  Students will attend a group session with the academic advising and professional development teams.  Academic advisors will introduce themselves and review how advisees can contact them for assistance throughout the year.  The advisors will also communicate the purpose of their role, especially how students can work with their advisor to create a trajectory for academic and professional success.  The advisors and associate director will then provide an overview of critical academic and co-curricular milestones that will occur throughout students’ four years within the College of Business, including an introduction to the Student to Professional Program.

  • Optional Academic Advisor and Schedule Adjustment Sessions:  Most students will have course schedules that require no adjustments when they participate in the College Welcome.  Some students, however, may need to make minor changes during the College Welcome to be ready for the start of classes.  The College of Business Undergraduate Programs Office will hold office hours for students who need to speak with their academic advisors about their schedules before the start of classes.
HAWKS Peer Mentors will also be available to help students make simple schedule changes online.  Students will receive an ALT PIN (alternate personal identification number), which is necessary for them to enter the online scheduling system (Banner) to make schedule changes.
