Advice for a Great Start to Spring

You are here

With the spring semester less than one week away, the College of Business and Economics (CBE) Undergraduate Programs Office encourages all first-year students to take the following three proactive steps:

1. Review Degree Audit before returning to campus.

Every student enrolled in the CBE has access to his or her academic degree audit online via Lehigh’s Banner system.  The degree audit is a student’s “score card” that maintains a current accounting of courses completed and in progress, grades, and grade point averages (GPAs) for the core, major, and overall.

Instructions for how to run a degree audit are available in the Resources page of the CBE Undergraduate website

Before arriving on campus to start the spring semester, every student should take a few moments to access and review his or her degree audit to:

  • Review his or her credits earned and GPA to date.  Good academic standing requires a minimum cumulative GPA of:
1.7 or higher for students who have earned fewer than 22 credits
1.8 or higher for sophomores (22 to 51 credits earned), and
2.0 or higher for juniors and seniors.
Seniors require a minimum GPA of 2.0 in their major(s) and overall to graduate with a BS in Business and Economics degree from Lehigh.

  • Double check that the courses listed as “in progress” (IP) for the spring semester are correct and listing the appropriate number of credits per course.

  • Be sure he or she understands the degree requirements represented on the degree audit.

If a student needs help accessing or reading his or her degree audit, he or she should call or stop by the CBE Undergraduate Office.  We are located in the Rauch Business Center (RBC) Suite 395 and can be reached at 610.758.3400.  Our hours of operation are 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, even during the January break.  Our coordinators and advisors are available to help!  Academic advisors could also be reached directly via their Lehigh emails or via cbeadvising@lehigh.edu.

2. Check Lehigh email now and regularly throughout the semester.

Students’ academic advisors, faculty, and most offices at Lehigh - including the CBE Undergraduate Programs Office - rely on reaching students via their Lehigh email account.  We strongly encourage all business students to check their Lehigh email at least once daily.  If a student has not checked his or her Lehigh email during break, he or she should do so now, as there may be important communications from their advisors or other Lehigh offices waiting!
The CBE Week at a Glance e-newsletter is also distributed via email to all business students every Sunday during the semester.  The CBE Week at a Glance e-newsletter informs students about current events and deadlines related to academics, professional development, careers, international experiences, and more - a must read for every business student every week!

3. Connect with academic advisor in person at least once this spring.

Every CBE student should meet with his or her academic advisor at least once every semester to review current status and plan a course of study for upcoming semesters.  During the fall semester, most first-year students met their advisors in the context of the BUS 001 class.  This spring, CBE Undergraduate Programs Office academic advisors will offer two First-Year Student Advising Information Sessions - one in late February and one in late March.  Every first-year student is expected to attend one of the two mandatory First-Year Advising Information Sessions to prepare for Fall 2017 registration before it opens online in April.
During each First-Year Advising Information Session, advisors will review degree expectations and common academic plans with students.  Students will also meet in small groups with their academic advisors to discuss fall schedules, have common questions answered, and receive the PIN necessary for access to the Banner online registration system when Fall 2017 registration opens in April.
First-year students are also welcome to meet with their advisors one-on-one during walk-in office hours if they have additional questions after the First-Year Advising Information Session or concerns about the current semester.  Walk-in office hours are posted to the CBE Undergraduate Programs Office website’s Advising page.

Our academic advising team for students in the BS in Business and Economics degree program includes:

Twana L. Walker - Advises students with last names starting with the letters A through H.

Adam Troxel -
Advises students with last names starting with the letters I through Q.

The name of each student’s advisor is also listed on the top of his or her degree audit online in Banner.

Throughout the semester, coordinator Carla Jenkins-McDonald is also available at the front desk of the CBE Undergraduate Office in RBC 395 and at 610-758-3400 to answer questions and be sure students connect with necessary advising support.
