Beta Gamma Sigma Membership and Leadership Grows

You are here

Every year at our CBE Honors Celebration, CBE leadership inducts undergraduates into the Lehigh Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the premier honor society of AACSB accredited schools of business.

This year, however, was not business as usual for Beta Gamma Sigma.

The Lehigh Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma installed our first student officer – President Vyolet Haik – who was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma as a junior last year.  Vyolet’s primary mission was to increase the number of students who accepted nominations for Beta Gamma Sigma membership in spring 2017.

On Vyolet’s suggestion, the CBE Undergraduate Programs Office hosted the first-ever Beta Gamma Sigma Information Luncheon for prospective Beta Gamma Sigma members.  Professor Anne Anderson, Professor Joseph Manzo, and Associate Dean Katrina Zalatan – all Beta Gamma Sigma members themselves – joined Vyolet to share perspective about the society with students.

At the luncheon, prospective members networked and shared ideas to make Beta Gamma Sigma even more visible next year.  Several students also expressed an interest in getting engaged in expanding awareness and membership, building on the groundwork Vyolet and Beta Gamma Sigma faculty laid this year.

At the CBE Honors Celebration on April 7th, a record number of Beta Gamma Sigma members were inducted – 25 juniors and seniors from across our three undergraduate business degrees –  by Beta Gamma Sigma faculty members Matt Melone, Mike Santoro, Ken Sinclair, Charlie Stevens, and Senior Associate Dean Paul Brockman.

"It is an honor to serve and represent Beta Gamma Sigma,” said President Vyolet Haik.  “I took on this role to spread the organization's values and continue its outstanding mission. Beta Gamma Sigma contributes greatly to the excellence of the CBE, and I am confident that the incoming student leaders will do an outstanding job of ensuring this continues."

This spring, four junior members inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma will be installed as Beta Gamma Sigma undergraduate student officers for 2017-18:

  • President Megan Rich
  • Vice President of Alumni Relations Bridget Harding
  • Vice President of Finance Madison Uram
  • Vice President of Programming Kevin Kenna

Megan Rich noted, “"I'm very excited to be the incoming BGS president!  This tremendous group of students has the potential to accomplish incredible things, and I'm eager to work with them in the year ahead to improve the CBE and the Lehigh community."

Please join the Lehigh Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in congratulating all of these student leaders and wishing them well as they advance the mission and values of Beta Gamma Sigma at Lehigh in the coming year.
