Student Spotlight: Megan Rich ’18

Majors: Accounting and Management

Megan Rich stays busy no matter where in the world she is; be it Bethlehem, New York City, or Prague.  The Accounting and Management double major has been actively engaged in a variety of academic, extra-curricular, and professional activities since her first year at Lehigh.  Megan credits the many leadership experiences she’s had at Lehigh for growing her confidence in speaking with professionals and alumni, which has led to new academic and internship opportunities.

Megan is now finishing her second year as a TRAC Fellow, where she serves as a peer writing tutor through the University-wide Writing Across the Curriculum initiative. Megan has tutored and mentored students in BUS 001 and BUS 005 and has been instrumental growing the TRAC program throughout the CBE. During the spring 2017 semester, she took on the role as Coordinator for BUS 005, managing 17 TRAC Fellows and 13 sections of BUS 005. As TRAC Coordinator, Megan worked closely with faculty and staff to ensure that her fellow TRAC Fellows were embedded into the course and meeting frequently with their cohort of student mentees.

“Being a lead fellow is such a unique experience…getting to interact with faculty and assist in developing writing assignments has been so interesting and fantastic. It has helped me to use my voice more and be more confident in meetings. In every interview my role as a TRAC Fellow comes up; recruiters greatly value the importance of communication skills and I’m able to show them that I’ve been actively working on not only my skills but the skills of fellow students. I’ve benefited from working with other TRAC Fellows in the CBE and other colleges, as well as working with the students directly.”

In addition to her work for the CBE and Lehigh community, Megan has continued her professional development through internships and externships. After receiving a Tauck Scholarship for the summer of 2016, Megan interned with PwC’s Mergers and Acquisitions team in Prague, Czech Republic. The comparison between life in Europe and life in New York City really struck her: “It was a really interesting experience to work in Prague after spending some time in the New York City offices. European firms run on a different schedule and have a different atmosphere than the American offices.  I’m really grateful to have had such a great experience abroad that I’ve learned so much from.”

Not one to limit her opportunities, the Beta Gamma Sigma member has completed an externship with each of the Big Four accounting firms, and will be spending her summer interning with Deloitte in their New York City office. Megan was offered her internship after participating in a Leadership Conference at Deloitte.

In addition to her academic and professional accomplishments, Megan serves as Vice President of the Women in Business club. The Women in Business club hosted their third annual Women in Business Conference on April 19, 2017. As Vice President, Megan has had the opportunity to connect with passionate Lehigh alumni. She says of her leadership role that “It’s amazing to meet with alumni who still care so much about Lehigh. For me, it has been an amazing networking opportunity. I have met so many alumni with so many different stories, but they are all so excited to give back to Lehigh.”
